Role | Sound Recordist(2016)
An award winning 15-min documentary following two fishermen in Portland Bight, Jamaica. Over one-third of Jamaica's fisherman live within the Portland Bight Protected Area. Within this area, fishermen live hand to mouth trying to collect the fish they need to feed their families. Recent declines in fish populations brought on by climate change, overfishing and other unsustainable practices have made it increasingly difficult for fishermen to meet their quotas. The general consensus among Jamaican fishermen is that something needs to be done about the issues at hand. Organisations like C-CAM are already helping to protect marine life as well as aid fishermen in the hunt for other financial opportunities. Unlike other documentaries about overfishing, this documentary will bring the issue of overfishing back to a personal level that everyone can relate to by focusing on Cecil and Keith. Best Student Short Documentary Winner at both TMC London Film Festival and Hollywood International Independent Documentary Awards. Stills by Latham Wright, Rob Morecraft and Jade Touron.
